Festival American IPA Kit

Festival American IPAFestival American IPA is a high-quality premium 4kg beer kit. The box includes everything you need to brew a superb, vibrant gold IPA (except water). Festival American IPA provides a big hit of citrus and tropical fruits, with underlying earthy and floral hop notes from a combination of Centennial, Citra and Motueka hops balancing a light, fresh malt flavour with a satisfying bitterness.

A 100g sachet of Centennial, Citra and Motueka hop pellets for dry hopping is included so that a stunning hop aroma is achieved. A nylon straining bag is also included, which fit over the end of your syphon sediment trap. This will prevent any hop sludge (referred to as trub) from transferring to bottles or barrels.  A 1000g sachet of priming sugar is provided to ensure bottles or barrels are properly conditioned.

The kit produces a target alcohol content of 5.6% ABV (approx). The colour is vibrant gold with a white head. The Festival American IPA kit contains high-quality ingredients and easy to follow step-by-step instructions. Each kit makes 40 pints of premium ale

What Is IPA

IPA stands for India Pale Ale. When Britain ruled the Indian Empire there were spoilage issues experienced when trying to ship beer long distances. The higher temperatures, delays, and travel did not suit normal beers. Brewers found that higher strength, higher hop rate ales overcame this problem and thus the IPA was created. The IPAs we enjoy today are characterised by an abundance of hops. Several varieties of hops may be used at different times throughout the brewing process. Hops affect flavour, aroma, and bitterness. IPAs often smell like citrus, pine, or flowers, especially where American hops are used.

Three main styles of IPA have emerged. They are American-style, English-style, and Double (DIPA) or Imperial. IPA’s have become extremely popular, especially amongst younger drinkers who prefer cold keg served beer. Modern IPAs tend to have ABVs (alcohol by volume) between 5.5 and 7.5 %. Craft breweries are constantly experimenting and creative sub-styles and twists on the classic,  including Black, Hybrid, Wheat, Belgian White IPA, and even Triple IPA (TIPA). Each style and sub-style has its own characteristics.

A new beer classification of “Juicy Hazy” has been created to accommodate New England IPA’s, which are cloudy and pack a powerful tropical hop punch. This proliferation of styles means there is plenty of variety in what falls under the IPA label today… and great choice and experimentation possibilities for the home craft brewer!

Tips

Harris Pure Brew - 5 DoseWe strongly recommend using Pure Brew with this kit in order to achieve a commercial quality. Pure Brew is a professional beer enhancer. It feeds the yeast with essential nutrients, which supercharge the fermentation and support yeast development (even in limited oxygen conditions). Pure Brew also treats brewing water to eliminate problems caused by Chlorine and Chloramine (which can create a medicinal or as it is sometimes referred to, a “homebrew” taste) The condition of brewing water is critical to achieving optimum results but this important area is often overlooked. By using Pure Brew, you can effectively and easily condition brewing water, and maximise effective fermentation.

The addition of beer finings will improve the final quality of your beer. Finings such as Harris Starbrite will help your beer to clear quickly and the sediment will be more likely to stay at the bottom of bottles or barrels. If you are using Corny Kegs then it is important to clear the beer as much as possible before kegging. Beer Finings will promote a faster and more efficient fall out of sediment and haze particles prior to kegging. Harris Starbrite is a highly effective vegan-friendly beer fining, which is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with home brewers.
