Description
Geordie Bitter Kit
Geordie Bitter is a traditional well-hopped bitter with the rich nutty flavour that real bitter drinkers love. Made from natural ingredients – malt, hops and barley – it has a clear deep amber colour and a full head. It’s satisfying to drink and just as satisfying to make.
This is a 1.5 kg beer kit made from malt extract, barley syrup and hops. This kit should take 3-4 weeks to make and mature, but will improve with standing. If you can leave this kit for an extra month or so in the bottles/keg, then you will be rewarded with a better tasting beer.
You will need either 1kg of brewing sugar or 1kg of beer kit enhancer to make this kit. We recommend the use of Beer Kit Enhancer as it will make a beer with a fuller body and more flavour.
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS REQUIRED to make Geordie Bitter:
To make this kit, you will either need 1Kg Brewing Sugar or 1Kg Amber Beer Kit Enhancer (Preferred) . Later, you will also need sugar or carbonation drops to prime the keg or bottles for the secondary fermentation. We also advise using finings like Starbrite to ensure your lager clears quickly and the sediment sticks to the bottom on the bottle or keg.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED?
Basic beer making equipment (5g fermenter, airlock, syphon tube with sediment trap, hydrometer, Suresan sanitiser, bottles or barrel). These are available under the starter kit section on this website.
TIPS
To achieve a commercial quality, we strongly recommend using Pure Brew with this kit. Pure Brew is a professional beer enhancer. It feeds the yeast with essential nutrients, which supercharge the fermentation and support yeast development (even in limited oxygen conditions). Additionally, Pure Brew treats brewing water, eliminating problems caused by Chlorine and Chloramine, which can create a medicinal or, as it is sometimes referred to, a “homebrew” taste. While achieving optimum results in brewing critically relies on the condition of brewing water, this important area is often overlooked. By using Pure Brew, you can effectively and easily condition brewing water, and maximise effective fermentation.
The addition of beer finings will improve the final quality of your beer. Harris Beer Brite finings, for example, will aid in the quick clarification of your beer, with the sediment more likely to remain at the bottom of bottles or barrels. For those using Corny Kegs, it is crucial to clear the beer as much as possible before kegging. Beer finings will promote a faster and more efficient settling of sediment and haze particles prior to kegging. Harris Starbrite is a highly effective vegan-friendly beer fining, which is rapidly becoming a firm favourite with home brewers.
