1 Vanilla Pod

The aromatic compound ‘vanillin’ gives vanilla its characteristic flavour, which tastes like a marshmallow. Vanilla has a creamy and slightly floral taste, with hints of caramel, anise, and a woody texture. It is a delicate and complex flavor derived from the orchid plant species. Often used as a primary ingredient in various baked goods and desserts . The flavour of vanilla can vary depending on the type of vanilla bean used, the origin of the bean, and the method of extraction .however, people generally recognize high-quality vanilla for its rich and intense flavour with floral and aromatic notes  .

You can also use both the beans and the empty pod to flavour what you are making.

To extract the vanilla beans from the pod, you will need a sharp knife and a cutting board. Here are the steps to follow

1. Lay the vanilla pod flat on the cutting board
2. Hold one end of the pod with one hand and use the other hand to make a lengthwise cut down the centre of the pod
3. Open the pod and use the back of the knife to scrape out the tiny black seeds from the inside of the pod
4. Collect the seeds in a small bowl or container
