To extract the vanilla beans from the pod, you will need a sharp knife and a cutting board. Here are the steps to follow
- Lay the vanilla pod flat on the cutting board
- Hold one end of the pod with one hand and use the other hand to make a lengthwise cut down the centre of the pod
- Open the pod and use the back of the knife to scrape out the tiny black seeds from the inside of the pod
- Collect the seeds in a small bowl or container
